Damn, 18 hours? That's rough man. Friday isn't the best time for me either but I'm going to watch as much of it as possible and catch up with the rest later (Shudder has confirmed it will be available later but no word yet if that means on demand or a rerun).

      ANNOUNCEMENT #4 - QUEENS OF EVIL (1970)

And finally, this wonderfully bizarre bit of hippy horror from Italy!

QUEENS OF EVIL stars Ray Lovelock as a freelovin’ dude just tryin’ to get away from it all, who stumbles into a seemingly perfect situation: a very stylish home isolated in the countryside inhabited by three extremely beautiful young ladies (played by Silvia Monti, Evelyn Stewart, and Haydee Politoff) who are totally into him and his free-love ethos. But of course, things don’t go exactly as he would hope, and soon enough things take a bizarre turn into the realms of pagan ritual and witchcraft!

A wonderfully stylized example of late 60s/early 70s counterculture exploitation cinema with lots of artsy touches and an occult horror payoff, it’s a real mystery that QUEENS OF EVIL has never gotten a US release before now. Mondo Macabro is very excited to rectify that sad situation with this Blu-ray release of a new 2k restoration of the film from its original negative. Expect a LE to be unveiled sometime early next year, with a retail edition coming a couple of months later.

I know only one other member will have any interest in this, but I'm excited to discover that Mondo Macabro is releasing Queens of Evil with Haydee Politoff.
People hyping up latest comic book movie to be the GOAT and I'm like "psshh, you guys must not have seen Bigfoot rip off a man's dick before in 1980's Night of the Demon."

This is awesome news. Every Haydee film needs a blu ray release!

How many are left? Also, everyone needs to experience The Slave (as released by Mondo Macabro) or by its other title Check to the Queen.

Quite a lot are left. Mostly French arthouse dramas but I dig that stuff. Interrabang is an early giallo so I'm surprised no one has picked that one up yet. And my second favorite film of hers besides The Slave, La collectionneuse, desperately needs a US release. It's out in Europe but as far as I know it's only available in a Six Moral Tales boxset. And as much as I love the series I can't bring myself to import it since My Night at Maud's is 1080i 25fps for some weird reason. Criterion really needs to get on it.

              Haydee...in a giallo? This I did not know. O_o

Yes! It's a pre-Bird with the Crystal Plumage giallo, so it's a lot different than the formula most are familiar with, but yeah. She has a big role and looks absolutely stunning too. Seems like something Mondo Macabro would be all over so I definitely wouldn't be surprised if they picked it up at some point.

Speaking of giallo, I've got a huge stack just building up that I just haven't had the time to get to or I haven't been in the mood to watch. Maybe that'll be my primary focus this October.

I have carefully curated a list of movies to watch in October. But I am thinking of making one or two replacements.

There's nothing better than stumbling on a movie you've never seen in the middle of the night and really liking it. Last night, this was Patrick (1978).

Totally agree. I love watching something late at night (what I call 2 AM cinema) and then remembering how awesome it was the next day. Sometimes I have to go back and rewatch certain movies just to make sure I didn't dream them up.

You guys really are aficionados. There's no way I would stay awake until 2 am watching a movie. I did this a lot when I was a kid, though. Nowadays, going to bed past midnight means "no." I cannot afford the price of not feeling productive the following day.

It doesn't happen to me very often these days unless I'm off the next day and I know I can sleep in.

ADDED: Anyone interested in owning season 1 of Stranger Things on blu-ray, Target is selling it for $5.

My absolute favorite time to start a horror movie is 3 AM - the witching hour.

After being blown away by Patrick, I had to track down the crazy Italian ripoff/illegitimate sequel Patrick Still Lives (1980). This was ok-ish. As you would expect from the director of Giallo in Venice, this was certainly sleazier than Patrick was (which was oddly classy for a movie essentially about a guy in a coma that really, really wants a hand job). Lots of blood and borderline pornographic at times. This would probably be more enjoyable as its own weird thing without comparing it to the much better Australian picture, but I'm glad I watched it anyway.

Dang, I haven't seen Patrick in a long time. I would occasionally run across the trailer in the various compilations, think to myself how I need to see it again, then forget about it by the next day.
